Zonguldak

Seaport and capital of Zonguldak province, northern Turkey, on the Black Sea; population (2000) 104,300. It is the mining and shipment centre for Turkey's only major coalfield; the main market being Istanbul, 240 km/150 mi to the southwest. Heavy industry dominates the region, including steelworks at Karabük and Eregli.
