Zoroastre

Opera by Rameau (libretto by L de Cahusac) produced at the Paris Opéra on 5 December 1749. The story takes place following the death of the Bactrian King. The High Priest Abramane seizes power, enlisting the help of Princess Erinice. Zoroastre is banished and his beloved Amélite is dragged away to be tormented by demons. Later, Zoroastre returns to free his people, defeating the evil powers of Abramane and marrying Amélite.
