Zouerate

Town in the Tiris Zemmour region of Mauritania; population (2001 est) 36,700. Iron-ore is mined here, accounting for 11% of Mauritania's gross national product (GNP) and 40% of exports. There is a railway to the port of Nouâdhibou on the Atlantic coast.
