Zunyi

Town in Guizhou province, south China, on the Chongqing-Guiyang railway, 163 km north of Guiyang; population (2000) 555,200. In January 1935 the Politburo of the Chinese Communist Party held its enlarged congress here, which criticized the earlier leadership of the party in the Civil War; Mao Zedong was elected a member of the standing committee of the Politburo and of the Secretariat, and assumed leadership.
