Zuider Zee

Former sea inlet in the northwestern Netherlands, closed off from the North Sea by a 32-km/20-mi dyke in 1932; much of it has been reclaimed as land. The remaining lake is called the IJsselmeer.

It's now called the province of Flevoland, but once it was the Zuyder Zee.
