Zwyssig, (Johann) Joseph (1808-1854)

Swiss priest, organist, and composer. He was educated at the monastery school of Wettingen. He was ordained as a priest and became music teacher, cathedral organist, and conductor. After the dissolution of the monastery he led a precarious existence, but was in demand as an authority on the organ.

masses, offertories and other church music; choruses, the patriotic Schweizerpsalm ‘Trittst im Morgenrot daher’ (1841); songs.
