Zygmund, Antoni

Zygmund, Antoni (1900–1992)

Polish mathematician. Born in Warsaw, Poland, he emigrated to the USA in 1940, fleeing Nazism, where he taught longest at the University of Chicago. A National Academy of Sciences member and recipient of the National Medal of Science in 1986, he did pioneering research in hard analysis. He wrote six books and over 180 papers.
