| Acculturation is the sharing of cultural features which occurs when
different cultural groups come into sustained first-hand contact. Acculturation has been viewed as
a linear progression, whereby immigrants gradually adopt the values,
behaviors and traits of their host culture and discard those of their
country of origin. Acculturation is the process whereby a person adopts or adapts to a
culture different than the one he or she was raised in (Spector, 2003;
Suarez & Ramirez, 1999). |
