acetylacetone

Colourless pungent liquid, boiling point 194°C/381.2°F. This diketone is unusual in that it exists to the extent of about 85% as the enol form, the enol form being considerably stabilized by hydrogen bonding between the enol OH proton and the carbonyl oxygen. Acetylacetone is an important reagent for the preparation of chelate compounds with a wide range of metals.
