acidic oxide

Oxide of a non-metal. Acidic oxides are covalent compounds. Those that dissolve in water, such as sulphur dioxide, give acidic solutions.

SO2 + H2O ⇌ H2SO3(aq) ⇌ H+(aq) + HSO3(aq)

All acidic oxides react with alkalis to form salts.

CO2 + NaOH → NaHCO3
