acoustic |
Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Medical, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia | 0.02 sec. |
acousticTerm describing a musical instrument played without electrical amplification or assistance, for example an acoustic guitar or acoustic piano. It is also a term used by musicians to characterize room response, an important factor in performance. A so-called ‘bright’ acoustic provides a lively reverberation while a ‘dry’ or ‘muddy’ acoustic is lacking in response; see acoustics. How to thank TFD for its existence? Known for
putting his affable little ax through amplifiers and special effects,
Shimabukuro now takes his act further, playing entirely acoustically and
tackling difficult material with just four nylon strings. The system can
even acoustically interpret what's being written on a sensor-tagged
marker board and reproduce that script on a computer screen. The curve of its underside is
emphasised by a skin of thin pine strips which tempers the huge surface
both visually and acoustically. |
