Actinomyces

Small genus of filamentous, Gram-positive, bacteria, formerly classified as fungi (Fungi Imperfecti). Some species are injurious to root crops – for example, Actinomyces scabies is responsible for potato scab – and others can cause the disease actinomycosis in animals and occasionally in humans. Certain species excrete vitamin B12 and have a distinct application in pharmacology.
