tissue plasminogen activatorNaturally occurring substance in the body tissues that activates the enzyme plasmin that is able to dissolve blood clots. Human tPA, produced in bacteria by genetic engineering, has, like streptokinase, been used to dissolve blood clots in the coronary arteries of heart-attack victims.
