glyceride

Ester formed between one or more acids and glycerol (propan-1,2,3-triol). A glyceride is termed a mono-, di-, or triglyceride, depending on the number of hydroxyl groups from the glycerol that have reacted with the acids.

Glycerides, chiefly triglycerides, occur naturally as esters of fatty acids in plant oils and animal fats. Cell membranes of all organisms except for archaea contain glycerides with two fatty acids and one phosphate group, known as phosphoglycerides.
