affirmative

Positive response indicating agreement. The word is sometimes used as a synonym for ‘yes’. An affirmative sentence is one that makes a positive statement; all sentences without a negative (such as ‘not’, ‘no’, ‘never’) are affirmative, even those with negative thoughts. ‘I think your dog is dying’, for example, is an affirmative sentence.
