agent

Software that mimics intelligence by automating tasks according to user-defined rules. Agents might select news stories of interest to users based on information users have already supplied, arrange scheduling with other agents, and filter out unwanted junk e-mail.

agent

In business, party with authority to act on behalf of another in dealings with third parties. The party the agent acts on behalf of is called the principal. With regard to legal obligations, the principal is bound by the actions of the agent provided the agent is acting within its authority. Typical examples of the agent–principal relationship include lawyers granted the power of attorney, and estate agents.
