division

One of the four basic operations of arithmetic, usually written in the form a ÷ b or a/b. It is the inverse of multiplication.

For example, 252 divided by 14 is the same as how many 14s there are in 252; 252 ÷ 14 = 18. The answer can be checked by multiplying 14 by 18; 14 × 18 = 252.
