conductanceAbility of a material to carry an electrical current, usually given the symbol G. For a direct current, it is the reciprocal of resistance: a conductor of resistance R has a conductance of 1/R. For an alternating current, conductance is the resistance R divided by the impedance Z: G = R/Z. Conductance was formerly expressed in reciprocal ohms (or mhos); the SI unit is the siemens (S). |
