al-Farghānī, abu-al-Abbās Ahmad (lived 9th century AD)

Arab astronomer. He worked in Baghdad and wrote his best-known and most influential work Jawami/Elements some time between 833 and 857. A comprehensive summary of Ptolemaic astronomy, it was translated into Latin by John of Seville 1135 and printed 1493, 1537, and 1546, and was widely circulated throughout Europe.
