alligator lizard

Reptile of the family Anguidae, the legless lizards; it is the only member of the group to have well developed limbs. It is found in North and Central America.

We go hunting for lizards and stuff - sand lizards and alligator lizards.
Rosowski at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in Cambridge and his colleagues recently reported that at frequencies below 800 hertz, sound is conducted across the throat walls of the alligator lizard and on to its eardrums when the animal's head is raised.
"Wildlife" specimens from area museums and nature centers include the great blue heron, red-tail hawk, egret and mallard, and native amphibians such as salamanders, tree frogs and alligator lizards.
