Alvin

Town in Brazoria County, southeast Texas, USA; population (1990) 19,200. It is situated 40 km/25 mi south-southeast of Houston. Alvin is a trade centre for regional nurseries, truck and dairy farms, and sulphur and oil producers. It also has space-related industries. It is home to Alvin Community College (1948).
