amalgamation
| In business, the merger of two business divisions within a company, or of two separate companies into one organization. When two companies amalgamate, one of the following three processes normally takes place: one of the companies acquires the other; the two companies merge; or the two companies dissolve and reform as a single entity. Amalgamation is often part of a process of rationalization. See also merger and takeover. |
