Ambler

Town in Montgomery County, southeast Pennsylvania, USA; population (1990) 6,600. It is situated 16 km/10 mi northwest of Philadelphia. It has large nurseries and produces asbestos, chemicals, pharmaceuticals, and sheet metal products. Ambler is the site of a campus of Temple University.

An early grain and milling hub settled in the 1720s, it was a major supply centre during the bitter winter of 1777–78, when George Washington's army camped at Valley Forge.
