aumbry

A cupboard or niche in a wall of a church. It is sometimes written in the form ‘almery’, being confused with ‘almonry’ and taken to mean a place for alms. This word is usually applied to a locker in churches which was used to store sacramental vessels, vestments, and so on. In its corrupt usage the word was formerly applied to the almonry of Westminster Abbey.
