amice

Rectangular piece of linen cloth worn by the priest in the celebration of the Christian Mass.

It is placed on the head and then thrown back and tied round the neck under the alb. Members of religious orders whose habit includes a hood, put the amice over the hood and then throw back both together to fall outside the chasuble.
