analogous

In biology, term describing a structure that has a similar function to a structure in another organism, but not a similar evolutionary path. For example, the wings of bees and of birds have the same purpose – to give powered flight – but have different origins. In contrast, homologous structures such as the dolphin flipper and the digging forelimbs of a mole have different functions but are clearly evolutionarily related; they share a similar position in the vertebrate tetrapod format.
