anamorphic projection

Technique used in film and in virtual reality to squeeze wide-frame images so that they fit into the dimensions of a 35-mm frame of film. In film projection, the projector has a complementary lens which reverses the process. In virtual reality, the computer must calculate the amount of deformation and reverse it.
