anchor

In computing, a hypertext markup language (HTML) tag that turns ordinary text into a hyperlink. Anchors are used to link to other documents, either on the same web site, or to documents anywhere on the World Wide Web. If a document is very large then anchors may also be used to link to other parts of that same document. Anchor text is usually underlined, coloured differently, or surrounded by a dotted line in order to mark it out from normal text.
