Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Medical, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia | 0.03 sec. |
anodeThe positive electrode in an electrolytic cell (see electrolysis), thermionic valve, cathode ray tube, or similar device, towards which negative particles are attracted. The negative particles originate from the cathode. In these cases the flow of electrons is out of the device at the anode. The term is also inconsistently applied in some other cases to electrodes at which the flow of electrons is into the device – for example, to the positive terminal of a battery. A point-to-point effect is created on a microscopic level, and electrons flow from the cathodic roller through the hole or anomaly in the thin film material to the anodic tip of the corona beam gun without increasing the applied voltage. Chelmsford, MA, USA) determined BPb in duplicate analysis by anodic stripping voltammetry. In general, the farther apart the two metals are on the scale, the more likely the anodic metal will be damaged. |
