aphis lion

Any member of the family Chrysopidae, of the insect order Neuroptera. The term is usually applied to the larvae of green lacewings, genus Chrysopa, which feed avidly on aphids when the host plant harbours both aphids and their predators.

The carnivorous Chrysopa larvae, which hatch from eggs laid on leaves, have specially adapted mouth parts; with long, hollow, curved jaws they dig into their prey and suck up their body fluids.
