arachnid) The scorpion belongs to an ancient group of animals. Scorpions were perhaps the first arachnids to adapt to life on land, some 400 million years ago. There are about 800 species known today. Type of arthropod of the class Arachnida, including spiders, scorpions, ticks, and mites. They differ from insects in possessing only two main body regions, the cephalothorax and the abdomen, and in having eight legs. |
