araucariaConiferous tree related to the firs, with flat, scalelike needles. Once widespread, it is now native only to the southern hemisphere. Some grow to gigantic size. Araucarias include the monkey-puzzle tree (Araucaria araucana), the Australian bunya bunya pine (A. bidwillii), and the Norfolk Island pine (A. heterophylla). (Genus Araucaria, family Araucariaceae.)
