armoured car

Wheeled, armoured fighting vehicle, proof against bullets and shell splinters, and usually armed with machine guns and sometimes a light gun. Its high speed and manoeuvrability allows it to undertake reconnaissance or support missions in areas and tactical situations that would be unsuitable for tanks.

Armoured cars were particularly effective in the North African campaigns of World War II.
