assize

In medieval Europe, the passing of laws, either by the king with the consent of nobles, as in the Constitutions of Clarendon passed by Henry II of England in 1164; or as a complete system, such as the Assizes of Jerusalem, a compilation of the law of the feudal kingdom of Jerusalem in the 13th century.
