The new product is capable of carrying time division multiplexing (TDM), asynchronous transfer mode (ATM), synchronous digital hierarchy/synchronous optical network (SDH/SONET) and Ethernet over a reliable network, with resiliency at par with TDM networks.
New chapters have been added on access networks, intelligent network application part, signaling for voice communication in packet networks, and asynchronous transfer mode networks.
In addition the software supplied with the chipset features a number of specialised communications functions, such as an adaptation layer for asynchronous transfer mode, and includes a diagnostics tool to help the modem user and the service provider improve modem connectivity and check the status of ADSL network connections.
