baion beat

Slow rhythm of Brazilian origin, used in pop music from the late 1950s onwards, where the on beat is followed by a one-beat pause and two half beats. The baion beat was often used by US record producer Phil Spector, for example in the song ‘Be My Baby’ by the Ronettes.
