ballo delle ingrate, Il

Ballet-opera in one act by Monteverdi (libretto by Ottavio Rinuccini), first produced in Mantua, Italy, in 1608. The work was published in Madrigali guerrieri et amorosi in 1638. The ‘ingrate’ of the title are ladies who have declined the attentions of their suitors. The ungrateful spirits are summoned from Hades and perform a melancholy dance.
