baroreceptor

In biology, a specialized nerve ending that is sensitive to pressure. There are baroreceptors in various regions of the heart and circulatory system (carotid sinus, aortic arch, atria, pulmonary veins, and left ventricle). Increased pressure in these structures stimulates the baroreceptors, which relay information to the medulla providing an important mechanism in the control of blood pressure.
