barrel organ |
Also found in: Dictionary/thesaurus, Encyclopedia, Wikipedia | 0.06 sec. |
barrel organPortable pipe organ, played by turning a handle, or occasionally by a clockwork mechanism. The handle works a pump and drives a replaceable cylinder upon which music is embossed as a pattern of ridges controlling the passage of air to the pipes. It is often confused with the barrel or street piano used by buskers, which employed a barrel-and-pin mechanism to control a piano hammer action. |
