| While ``Delirium,'' the company's first touring show designed for arenas, is no ``Zumanity'' (Cirque's Las Vegas-based R-rated show), it is a frenzy of musicians, singers, dancers and urban tribal beats against a backdrop of dizzying visuals. As a figure of resistance, what was a mere "drop of midnight" (my italics) in the first stanza intermingles with the "pulsating stream" and builds up to a mighty current that beats against the "man-wrought iron bars of her captivity" (10) in the second stanza. Outside, the sky is turning pink above the New York Bight as a small sailboat beats against the wind. |
