Meeting place provided by a wealthy host or hostess for writers, artists, and musicians. The term was first used in 17th-century Paris to describe the gatherings of artists and intellectuals in the houses of rich and cultured ladies. The tradition of the ‘literary hostess’ has continued in Europe and the USA.

Michael Angelo's renowned Wonderland Beauty Parlor, one of the first ever beauty salons in the Meatpacking District, leased 2,200 s/f of retail space.
This time there are all kinds of people staring at us like our hair is on fire: old ladies in flowered muumuus, the women from the beauty parlor next door with their hair half braided and half permed.
``We get tons of people who realize they've been shopping all season, they look up and realize their hair looks terrible,'' said Linda Husjord, manager of Frenchy's Beauty Parlor in Burbank.
