bellflower

General name for many plants of the family Campanulaceae, especially those of the genus Campanula. The white, pink, or blue flowers are bell-shaped and showy. The varied leaf bluebell C. rotundifolia grows in northern North America and Europe.

Bellflower

City in southwestern California, 23 km/14 mi southeast of Los Angeles, on the San Gabriel River; population (1990) 61,800. It grew rapidly as a residential and retailing centre in the 1950s. It now has a variety of aerospace, high-tech, and other light industries.

It was founded in 1906 by Dutch settlers and was formerly a market gardening community.
