This emphasis upon historical documentation has turned many literary critics into literary detectives, combing for the first time the historical records which might reveal more about their subjects, trading or enhancing the language of critical theory with that of historians and bibliographers. If so, then bibliographers could exploit that rate to date documents relative to those with known publication dates.
