List of books on a particular subject, or used in the research for a work; or a list of all the books by a particular writer.

An annotated or critical bibliography includes a critical judgement on listed works; some bibliographies include an abstract of the contents of the works.

This emphasis upon historical documentation has turned many literary critics into literary detectives, combing for the first time the historical records which might reveal more about their subjects, trading or enhancing the language of critical theory with that of historians and bibliographers.
If so, then bibliographers could exploit that rate to date documents relative to those with known publication dates.
Loewenstein does a particularly impressive job of placing his work alongside book historians like Eisenstein and Johns without losing sight of what earlier bibliographers like Greg and Pollard had achieved.
