In alternative medicine, correction of imbalances or deficiencies in the body's resources of essential mineral salts. There are 12 tissue salts in the body and the healthy functioning of cells depends on their correct balance, but there is scant evidence that disease is due to their imbalance and can be cured by supplements, as claimed by German physician W H Schuessler in the 1870s; nevertheless, many people profess to benefit from the ‘Schuessler remedies’.

In modern usage, biochemic tissue salts are prepared in highly diluted homeopathic formulations that usually take the form of small tablets. These are then dissolved under the tongue and are used in the treatment of common ailments such as hay fever, headaches, indigestion, cold symptoms, and minor skin conditions.
