biosynthesisSynthesis of organic chemicals from simple inorganic ones by living cells – for example, the conversion of carbon dioxide and water to glucose by plants during photosynthesis. Other biosynthetic reactions produce cell constituents including proteins and fats. Biosynthesis requires energy; in the initial or light-dependent stages of photosynthesis this is obtained from sunlight, but in all other instances, it is supplied chemically by ATP and NADPH. The term is also used in connection with the products achieved through biotechnology processes. How to thank TFD for its existence? | Scientists from Yulex and the USDA will create new guayule varieties by transforming existing high-yielding plant lines with rubber biosynthesis genes. Previous study identified the involvement of the gene pks 15/1 in the biosynthesis of PGLs; disruption of this gene generated a PGL-deficient mutant (8). He has made it his mission to uncover as much as he can about the biosynthesis of floral scents and the biological roles that these scents play. |
