bioterrorism

Use of biological weapons in terrorism. Diseases that could be employed as weapons include anthrax, plague, and botulism.

The first use of biological weapons against civilians by a non-military organization occurred in March 1995 when a Japanese cult Aum Shinrikyo used the nerve gas sarin in an attack on the Tokyo subway that left 12 dead and 5,000 hospitalized.
