biotin

Vitamin of the B complex, found in many different kinds of food; egg yolk, liver, legumes, and yeast contain large amounts. Biotin is essential to the metabolism of fats. Its absence from the diet may lead to dermatitis.

In structural and molecular biology, biotin is widely used as a marker substance, as it is easily recognized with the help of molecules such as streptavidin.
