Feeder

British rock group. Formed in London in 1995, the band incorporates pop, rock, heavy metal, punk, and grunge influences, and is best known for its punk-inspired anthem ‘Buck Rogers’ (2001). Their debut album, Polythene (1997), was followed by Yesterday Went Too Soon (1999), featuring the hit ‘Day In, Day Out’, Echo Park, Comfort in Sound (2002), and Pushing the Senses (2005).

The band is often compared to the US alternative band Smashing Pumpkins. Original members included Grant Nicholas (1967– ) on vocals and guitar, Jon Lee (1968–2002) on drums, and Taka Hirose (1967– ) on bass guitar. Mark Richardson became the drummer after Lee committed suicide in 2002. The group's sound became more subdued and melancholy after Lee's death.

Nicholas and Lee played together in a Newport grunge band, Temper Temper, in the early 1990s. After changing their name to Reel, they moved to London and recruited Japanese-born Hirose. They signed with indie label Echo in 1995, changed their name to Feeder, and released their debut EP, Two Colours, followed by the six-track album Swim. Incessant touring helped develop a wide, loyal, and youthful fan base. Their single ‘High’ featured in the teen movie Can't Hardly Wait (1998).
