blewit

Edible fungus belonging to the class Basidiomycetes, found in the autumn. Lepista saeva, with a greyish cap and thick, violet-stained stem, is a pasture species; the wood blewit L. nuda is a clear bluish lilac when young, the cap and gills later becoming reddish.

Our basketful of honey fungus and spongey chunks of blewit underwhelms Leon, with a failure to find the prized bay boletus or ceps, though it looks like a gorgeous colour plate from a Carluccio book to me.
Blewit refers to two species that are edible in the genus Clitocybe.
Tiny, delicate mousserons, firm blewits, super-tasty chanterelles and the exquisitemorelmushrooms are all pushing from the leaf litter to tempt the wandering picker.
