At ILM, split-screen monitors were used by the animators to approximate every one of the actor's subtle ticks and expressions on a digital mask full of keyboard-playing tentacles and vapor-emitting blowholes. While we don't have blowholes, we do share a number of traits with humpback whales: we are warm blooded, breathe air, give birth to and nurse' live young. Porosity can occur through entrapped air, blowholes, re-oxidation, pin-holes and shrinkage. |
